Description
Heavy mouthpiece with a big sound!Amati-Kraslice was founded in 1945 as a consolidation of major wind instrument manufacturers in Graslitz [Kraslice], Bohemia, in recently-refounded Czechoslovakia. After years of variable production [they made many more cheap instruments than high-quality ones], they were privatized after the fall of Communism. By the late 1990s, they had upgraded much of their tooling and introduced this heavyweight "Virtuoso" mouthpiece series, which they market to this day*.
Many of these have a "frosted" finish, but some have a highly-polished surface like this one.
*while Amati recently was purchased by a Silesian mining conglomerate, it remains to be seen how much they'll retain - Amati did continue to market items throughout 2020
The only significant wear is some scratching on the shank, with tiny nicks and microscratches elsewhere. It looks like the mouthpiece was dropped in the factory, as the shank has some wear at the slightly-out-of-round opening, which we discovered upon opening the box...
It was lightly demoed and has a huge symphonic sound for those with strong chops!
From the UMI catalog: "
Same rim as the 1B with a more shallow cup. Good overall presence of sound with powerful projection.
" The 1C is considered a bit more "symphonic" than the smaller 3C
.
Bach's catalog states "
Large diameter, medium cup – good for all-around use.
", and in 1982 they stated "
Extra large cup for players with a robust embouchure. Principally used by trumpet players in large symphony orchestras who alternate between Bb, C, and D trumpets. Produces an enormous volume of tone of brilliant timbre.
"
While it could work in marching band, in the same sort of capacity as the System Blue trumpet model 2 [SBTP2], I don't recommend it for that [unless you need that large size]. I find it a large piece overall, but not bad - it's ready to play!
