    Description

Principality of Antioch, Crusader State. Bohemond III "Helmet" Silver Denier, 1163-1188 AD.. Shipped with USPS First Class Package. Minted sometime between the 2nd and 3rd Crusade, the "Helmet" Denier of Bohemond is an iconic piece of Medieval Numismatic history . Bohemond III was descended from Bohemond of Taranto, one of the most iconic members of the First Crusade and arguably the most influential next to Godfrey de Boullion. A member of the renowned De Hauteville family and distantly related to William the Conqueror, Bohemond was a Norman knight and son of Robert "the Guiscard" who conquered southern Italy and created the triple Dukedom of Calabria, Apulia, and Sicily. Bohemond, eager to carve a name for himself took to Crusade and made himself Prince of Antioch, the Jewel of the Levant. Bohemond III furthered these ambitions and secured the county of Tripoli as well as part of Armenian Cilicia. This coin is a part of that rich history and would make an excellent addition to any historical collection.
