Bob "Blaze" Perino came to Los Angeles in the 70's to play trumpet and make a living in Tinseltown after his service in Vietnam. He ended up playing a lot of Cumbia and also writing music and playing for Wolfman Jack- a nationally known radio personality. Bobby got his nickname for his speedy writing skills while arranging for Wolfman. Bob is somewhat unique in that after he retired from his day job, he went back full time into playing trumpet professionally. Bobby is a versatile player, performing an incredible variety of music everything from hip-hop, rock and R&B to Mexican Boleros, Columbian Cumbias, Big Band jazz, and classical concert band. He is always willing to try new music and play in places that most retirees wouldn't even think of, just to have a new experience. And he still arranges music on a regular basis. He is definitely one of the busiest cats in town.
Purviance 4
Carroll Purviance came to Los Angeles in the 1930's after traveling for many years as a cornetist on the Chautaqua circuit. He was trained as a carpenter and studied machining with Dominick Calicchio, Roe Plimpton (Olds), Earl Strickler (legendary Besson repairman), and Earl Williams (creator of the Williams trombone). Not long after, he opened his shop and started working with players in developing new mouthpiece designs. Upon his death in 1969, Carroll's mouthpiece equipment and designs were left in the care of Bob Reeves, who had worked closely with him for more than a decade. The Purviance 4 was one of his most popular models and backbores.
Curry 60M
Mark Curry's rim is specifically designed to give maximum comfort while allowing superior flexibility over the entire range of the horn. The bite allows you to comfortably grip the mouthpiece, rather than hooking your chops in. The steep undercut gives your chops the room to vibrate freely, no matter how tired and swollen you may be. The flat-bottomed main cup and short second cup provide the resistance you need to keep from “bottoming out.” All in all, these features produce a bright, compact sound that projects like no other! This cup shape lends itself to to a compact concentrated sound, bright with color, and Immediate response. Cup volume is in the range of 13A4 or Warburton 4S.
