Description
Three Cornet Mouthpieces, from a friend's estate. He was a trumpet player, had several horns, and like many of us, experimented with various mouthpieces. These are obviously old.The one on the left is stamped "Trump". That's all. Not "trumpet", just Trump. (No, not that Trump). I've not seen anything like it. It appears to have a a fairly wide cushion rim, and a cup that goes in straight/perpendicular to the rim for a short distance before tapering toward the throat, a little like a JetTone. It's a medium-shallow cup, not as deep or V-shaped as typical cornet cups. I'd expect this to be a pretty bright-playing mouthpiece. I'd guess it's in the Bach 7 - 10 & 1/2 range as far as width. It's in pretty decent shape.
The center one is most interesting, someone may know a lot more about this one than I do. It's stamped "Rudy N____" (can't make it out) "Cushion Rim" and below that "Hand Made". On the other side is stamped "17 C". It's well-worn, but usable, though the base of the shank is thin, with some small splits in it, and somebody scratched their initials - "J.S." in it. It has a wide rim, and the cup tapers smoothly from the rim to the throat. Definitely not as deep as a typical cornet mouthpiece. Someone must have liked playing it, it was used a lot, most of the silver is worn off.
The one on the right is an old Holton "Collegiate" cornet mouthpiece. The stampings somehow were done on top of each other, but you can make out "Holton" and "Elkhorn" . Holton made the collegiate model cornet back in '50's, maybe even earlier.
I know they're not worth a lot, but they're too cool to throw away. Buy them, add them to your collection, play them and see if you like them, keep 1 or 2 and sell the other...
